An Old House Beneath the Moon
월하고택(月下古宅)
The title Wolha Gotaek means “an old house beneath the moon.” This pen drawing depicts a house in the quiet of night, accompanied by the artist’s reflections on the small lights and warmth that darkness allows us to notice.
Artist’s words
Night is dark and quiet.
In the darkness, we look at things we would not otherwise see,
and listen to things we would not otherwise hear.
Starlight and moonlight, trees and rocks,
wind and insects, and the warmth of people.
If life, too, has its night,
perhaps it is a time to look quietly at small lights
once too slight and ordinary to be seen.
